The art pool, as the name implies, is a fine art resource. We specialize in fine art imagery that is specifically created for reproduction utilizing the very best giclee printing. (See "about our art") We pride ourselves in creating unique compositions as well as a wide variety of traditional styles and subjects. We think fine art should always engage the viewer allowing each individual a personal connection.
The art pool, founded by Mark Waterman, is a family-owned and operated fine art publishing company that spans two generations of designers, fine artists, and printmakers. The Waterman family has a broad and deep history with fine art and design. Mark's parents, Donald and Ann Waterman, are both accomplished painters, printmakers, and commercial designers specializing in surface pattern design for the fashion, home, and contract furnishing industries. Through their firm, Waterman Design, the client list included Schumacher, Liberty of London, Wamsutta, Riverdale and many others. Donald and Ann are also published art educators teaching at major universities, such as Syracuse University, the Art Center College of Design, UCLA, Otis College of Art and Design and others. Ann Waterman continues to paint in her studio/gallery, "the sun spot," located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in addition to her involvement in the art pool.
With a childhood filled with exposure to fine art and design it was a natural path that lead Mark to become the next generation of Waterman Artists. Formally trained in illustration and graphic design, Mark has continued the tradition with the pursuit of watercolor, oil, and pastel painting. Like his parents, Mark has also been an educator, teaching art and design at Loyola University in Chicago and at the University of Chicago.
It is the combined creative resources of the Waterman family that reflect in the images seen throughout the art pool collection. Exchanging ideas, techniques, as well as inspiration, the Waterman family has pooled their body of talents to bring some of the most unique and innovative ideas to contemporary fine art and fine art printmaking.
